What may be done to improve scars on my breasts?
Proven nonsurgical interventions to help existing scars include topical treatments, such as silicone-based therapies (Biocorneum, Mederma, silicone sheeting, etc.), scar massage; minimally invasive procedures such as microneedling, laser treatment, and injection of a local steroid (such as triamcinolone);and application of sunscreen to avoid scar darkening.
Surgical interventions may involve simple removal and reclosure or more advanced maneuvers such as geometric scar rearrangements and tissue advancements. Fat grafting (removal of your own fat through liposuction, purification, and injection into scarred tissue) may also improve the quality of a scar and improve contour of the area of concern.
Scar revision may also be functional, to relieve tightness from scarring in certain areas. Some geometric scar rearrangements, such as Z-plasty (see below) can both improve tightness and make a scar less visible because of breaking up the appearance.
Will I look better after breast revision?
The goal of breast revision may be improvement in appearance, or relief of symptoms, related to previous breast surgery or traumatic injury. Potential areas for improvement may include scarring, implant position or deflation, asymmetry, contour irregularities. Symptoms may include discomfort, tightness, numbness or other abnormal sensations. Individualized treatments will depend on your concerns and will be discussed in detail during your expert consultation.

What are the surgical techniques used for breast revision?
The surgical process of a breast revision depends on what concerns need to be addressed. Depending on the extent of the solution that's necessary to fix your concerns, the procedure may be performed under general anesthesia (going to sleep) or local anesthesia (numbing medication while awake).
I would like another procedure performed at the same time. Is this possible with breast revision?
Certainly! A breast revision can be an opportunity to address other concerns. Certain patients will benefit from tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift. Liposuction is another frequently combined procedure. Dr. McDaniel is happy to discuss any other areas that you would like to be improved at your free consultation.

How challenging is recovery after breast revision?
Breast revision is usually performed in our AAAASF-certified private operating room with any other combined procedures. Dr. McDaniel will see you the following day to ensure proper early healing and review postoperative restrictions. You will also be seen at intervals during the following year to check the progress of swelling, bruising, and scarring. The specific length and intensity of recovery will depend on the type of operation required to correct your concerns. Activity restrictions may be limited to incision care, or may involve more extensive restrictions, with three weeks of avoidance of cardiovascular exercise in six weeks of minimizing arm and upper body activity. Dr. McDaniel will discuss your specific plan at your free consultation.
What do you charge for breast revision? Is financing available?
We are dedicated to keeping your costs reasonable. Bacause of our private, certified operating facility we are able to provide you with a specific quote after consultation detailing your total cost. Because the required operation will depend on your concerns, breast revision cost is variable.
