Injectable Facial Fillers
Fillers are injectable materials used to enhance facial contours by improving volume or diminishing wrinkles.
Most temporary fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella, and Belotero are made of hyaluronic acid and last between 6 and 18 months, with an average of around 12 months. Differences in the viscosity of the different fillers determines the level that the filler should be placed within soft tissue and the role the filler plays in facial rejuvenation.
Fat injections are a permanent surgical filler derived from your own fat cells by liposuction. Grafted fat requires surrounding blood supply for survival. Therefore, depending on the target area for volume improvement, multiple rounds of fat grafting may be required. Fat grafting is especially popular in the face and breasts, and common areas for fat harvest include the abdomen, thighs, and flanks.
